April 28th, 2017

Music Magnate is a proven performer in Queensland and remains a clear $2.30 favourite in 2017 Victory Stakes betting markets at Ladbrokes.com.au, ahead of Takedown ($3.40) and leading local Tumbler ($5).

Will Music Magnate justify favouritism and win the 2017 Victory Stakes, or will one of his talented rivals post an upset?

1st

Takedown ($3.40)

Takedown is sure to have taken plenty of benefit from his first-up run a fortnight ago, is drawn ideally and should relish the conditions of the Victory Stakes. Resuming in spring in excellent form, the Stratum gelding posted consecutive wins in the Group 2 The Shorts (1100m) and Group 2 Premiere Stakes (1200m), before running second to Voodoo Lad in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Moonga Stakes (1400m). Weathering a tough run in transit before finishing fifth in the Group 3 L’Oreal Paris Stakes (1400m), Takedown responded in the best way possible with a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m). Having finished his year a commendable sixth in the Group 1 Hong Kong Sprint (1200m) at Sha Tin in December, Takedown’s class should count for plenty on Saturday and he will be very tough to beat in the Victory Stakes.

2nd

Music Magnate ($2.30)

There is a big class gap between Takedown, Music Magnate and their rivals and it is tough to see any other horse in this small Victory Stakes field breaking into the quinella. Music Magnate found career-best form in late autumn and winter last year; winning the Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) first-up and finishing second in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) before comfortably taking out the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) upon arriving in Brisbane. The Written Tycoon gelding resumed this time for a smart win in the Group 2 Expressway Stakes (1200m) and while failing to produce much in two subsequent Sydney starts, should enjoy a step back in class this weekend.

3rd

Miss Cover Girl ($15)

Miss Cover Girl is not given much hope in Victory Stakes betting markets, but the mare is a Group 1 winner at Eagle Farm and there is nothing to say she won’t be right in the finish of Saturday’s feature first-up. Posting an impressive career total of eight wins and as many minors through thirty starts, the Monashee Mountain mare has been one of the few Queensland runners in recent seasons who has been able to consistently compete with interstate raiders both at home and in Sydney and has trialled well in the lead-up to the Victory Stakes.
