12 sprinters have been confirmed in the final field for Saturday’s Group 2 Victory Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast, offering punters exceptional value from a betting standpoint and several key opportunities to place a winning wager.
Srikandi was one of the standout performers of the 2014 Queensland Winter Carnival and has opened as tied $5 favourite alongside Ball Of Muscle to win the 2015 Victory Stakes first-up as a result.
Yet to finish outside the places through her eight career starts, Srikandi ran second in a Moonee Valley minor over 1000m upon resuming in 2014 before posting an impressive five-consecutive victories, including each of the Listed Silk Stocking (1200m), Listed Juanmo Stakes (1200m) and Group 3 Glenlogan Park Stakes (1350m).
Having returned to the paddock following a credible run for third in the featured Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), the Dubawi mare has trialled well in the lead-up to her racing return and will leave from the ideal barrier 1 on Saturday.
Also yet to finish outside the places through his eleven career starts, Ball Of Muscle is sure to take valuable condition from a first-up run for second in the 3AW Community Raceday Handicap (1000m) on April 11th.
Undoubtedly finding career-best form to date through summer, the son of Dubawi won each of the Ranvet BM85 (1000m) and TAB Rewards Plate (1000m) first-up; progressing to second in the Listed Canterbury Classic (1200m) before returning to the winner’s circle in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m).
A close relation to both Tiger Tees and Terravista, Ball Of Muscle is likely to receive the run of the race from barrier 3, particularly with Blake Shinn aboard.
Veteran sprinter and 2014 Victory Stakes winner Temple Of Boom is yet to attract much more than a sprinkling of bets for success this weekend but has maintained status as sole occupant of the second line at generous $5.50 odds.
A Group 1 winner, having taken out the 2012 edition of The Galaxy (1100m), Temple Of Boom returned to competitive form through the 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival; following up his Victory Stakes triumph fourth in the Group 1 BTC Cup (1200m) and second in each of the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) and Stradbroke Handicap.
Specifically prepared for major sprints in Brisbane this time in, trainer Tony Gollan has been pleased with the work completed by the Piccolo gelding in the lead-up to the Victory Stakes and is confident local hoop Tegan Harrison will again get the best from Temple Of Boom from barrier 6.
