Robert Heathcote is disappointed that Buffering will not get the opportunity to contest back to back Victory Stakes this year, due to the race being called off last Saturday.
Buffering will now run in the $100,000 Weight For Age Handicap at Eagle Farm tomorrow May 2, 2012, instead of the Group 2 Victory Stakes.
“The prizemoney doesn’t worry me that much but I am a little disappointed the race has lost its Group Two status,” Heathcote said.
The Victory Stakes was originally worth $175,000 in prize money.
Buffering will be having his first-up start for the Brisbane winter racing carnival, where he will aim to win his first Group 1 in the BTC Cup, Doomben 10,000, and Stradbroke Handicap.
The four-year-old is likely to be hard to beat without his biggest rivals Black Caviar and Hay List in the mix.
Rain Affair has also been ruled out of a Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign, making things ever easier for Buffering.
“It’s good news Rain Affair isn’t coming,” Heathcote said.
“Buffering deserves to win a Group One race as he’s ticked all the boxes.
“He should be very hard to beat tomorrow after his efforts behind the world’s top two sprinters in Melbourne.”
Heathcote will also line up both Trump and Vacallo in the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic, which has also been relocated to tomorrow after being washed out last Saturday.
“I’m very happy with both of them,” the trainer said.
“This run will tell me more about which way we’ll go with Trump.”
