2012 Victory Stakes Cancelled Due To Heavy Rain

April 28th, 2012

The 2012 Victory Stakes has been called off due to the heavy rain that has fallen on the track over the past 24 hours.

The track, which is currently rated a Heavy 10, was deemed unsafe for racing by Racing Queensland chief steward Wade Birch.

The decision to cancel the entire meeting, which also included the Group 3 Gunsynd Classic and the Listed Tails Quality, was made at 8am (AEST).

“The track has received around 50 millimetres of rain since it started last night about seven o’clock,” Birch said.

“There was a lot of surface water around the track but there was a bad section covered with water at the 1100 metres.”

The 2012 Victory Stakes was due to be the beginning of Buffering’s winter campaign before taking on the Group 1 BTC Cup and Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

However, the abandonment of today’s 2012 Victory Stakes is sure to put a spanner in the works of his upcoming campaign, with no word as yet as to when, and if, the race will be rescheduled.

While Eagle Farm may have been abandoned, there is still a wide variety of feature racing to be held at Royal Randwick and Morphettville today.
