The winner of the Victory Stakes gains automatic entry into the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap, which is run on the final day of the Winter Carnival and is Queensland’s richest race. For this reason, the Victory Stakes is a great form guide to the $1 million Stradbroke Handicap, as well as many of the other races throughout the carnival. Many horses that run in the 2013 Victory Stakes will then go on to run in the Group 1 BTC Cup and Group 1 Doomben 10,000.

The Victory Stakes takes place on the same day as the Group 3 Gunsynd Mile and Listed Tails Quality. According to spring carnival racing news, the race is well suited to horses who are fit from a late autumn racing carnival campaign and looking to tackle some of the early winter features, as well as horses that perform well fresh after their autumn spell.

Notable winners of the 2012 Victory Stakes include Rough Habit (1991), Roulette (1999), Tit For Taat (2003), All Bar One (2006), Swiss Ace (2008-2009) and Buffering (2011).

The race provides punters with a great opportunity to begin their winter racing carnival betting. Betting combinations such as win, place, trifectas, first four and quinellas can be placed on the 2014 Victory Stakes each year and often offer fantastic odds.

Don’t forget that the 2016 Melbourne Cup is only a few months off now too!
